The Challenge

The Louisiana's Culinary Trails website aims to promote tourism by showcasing the state's rich culinary heritage. In preparation for "The Year of Food," the client sought a complete overhaul of the existing site to align with the successful tone and aesthetic of the previously designed Louisiana Libations website.

The primary challenge with the current Culinary Trails site was its bland and static nature, resulting in low user engagement and a lack of personalization. It failed to visually capture the vibrant and diverse culinary culture of Louisiana, particularly by lacking the warmth of soft colors, unique hand-drawn elements, and the intimate, authentic feel of a passed-down cookbook for traditional Louisiana cuisine, hindering effective exploration and inspiration for users looking to plan their gastronomic adventures.

My Process

My redesign process for the Culinary Trails website commenced with a thorough audit of the existing site. This initial examination of pages such as the main exploration grid and individual culinary profiles revealed significant user experience deficits. The design was indeed static and visually uninspiring, failing to convey the vibrant spirit of Louisiana's culinary scene. Content often felt unorganized and impersonal, making it difficult for users to discover and plan their unique food journeys.
